Just saw this here on CNBC.com. Now to add my scholarly two cents that I did not see mentioned in the article: cut spending and stop finding new things to tax. Period. Bernanke actually mentions in the article that the Fed may need to do things in order to get people to spend money again. Are you out of your mind? With double digit unemployment, new financial regulations, healthcare reform, and a mortgage industry still out of control why would anyone be dumb enough to suggest that businesses and consumers need to have the ability to borrow more money so they can spend more money? Is that not how we ended up here in the first place by spending what we did not have?
I think I make a good bit of sense in the second sentence above, try reading it again if you are sitting there thinking things like “Bernanke has a cool beard, he must know about the free market” or “a shiny dome like his is a sure sign of intelligence”. Yeah I went there and no it does not make my argument any less valid. We must cut spending, encourage thrift, and stop regulating ourselves into obscurity in the marketplace. Get the government out of the way and let the free market figure out a way to produce again. Artificially propping up the market is only going to make the eventual letdown all the more catastrophic when that day inevitably comes.
Now if only I could borrow a few bucks to buy a six pack for my mock BeerGate I will now have to throw for my previous comments about Bernanke’s dome.

So almost a year after the first BeerGate, our President is back to condemning others’ behavior without knowing all the facts. Much like the incident a year ago where the President quipped that Sgt. Crowley acted “stupidly” and then had to backtrack by using our tax dollars to buy the next round, the President once again jumped the gun by calling for Shirley Sherrod’s head after perceived racist remarks. Unfortunately for the President Sherrod is not a racist and when her comments were taken in context they tell a much different story. But you probably know that already because it is a story that has been running all over the news for the last week with the big announcement today that the USDA will off Sherrod her job back (which is the least they can do btw).
First things first, doesn’t Sherrod at least deserve a beer with the President after he added fuel to the fire? Maybe not on second thought because we cannot afford to buy a beer for everyone our President has managed to offend or paint in a negative light. There would be a lot of people out there clinging to their Bibles and guns that would be owed a drink for example. Secondly, why the rush to judgment on Sherrod’s employer’s part? Didn’t she at least deserve a chance to explain her side of the story, which incidentally would have only taken 43 minutes?
What really irks me about this situation is the fact that the White House has issued an apology to Sherrod (link here). Really? Where was the apology a year ago to a white cop the President basically accused of being a racist? Crowley is not a racist nor is Sherrod but only one gets a quick apology from the President while the other has to take part in some sort of strange teaching lesson on the White House lawn? Inexcusable for our Commander-in-Chief to continue to act this way. Neither situation required nor deserved Presidential input especially when that input was completely misguided. Our President should act Presidential and keep his distance from these types of incidents in the future.
Now that I am all out of sorts when do I get my invite for my free beer at BeerGate XV?
Update: So now the President has called Sherrod directly to apologize and I sure hope it was a collect call. Michelle Malkin has more here.

I forgot to mention in the post that was too long my new crush on Megyn Kelly. My wife is just going to have to understand that Megyn is now on the list. (Most people are allowed maybe 5 people on the list right? Only Heidi Klum has been on mine for years so adding a second can’t be that bad or am I sleeping on the couch again tonight?) After seeing this story and clip over at Michelle Malkin’s site, welcome to number 2 Megyn.

Received a CNN breaking news alert text earlier today on my cell phone letting me know that Michael Jackson’s gold casket was on stage at the Staples Center. Wow, thanks CNN! Thank goodness I was aware of that breaking news. Not to be outdone by themselves, CNN followed that up with a news alert text letting me know that Jackson’s daughter said he was like the best father ever. Boy, I feel so much better knowing these tidbits of information. When did journalism in this country die? Between this sick obsession with the accused child molesting freak show and the undying devotion to the “One”, journalism is long dead here in the States.
Where is the questioning of all the spending being done by Washington? The hard hitting stories on what Cap and Trade really means to the average American family and the future generations that this country is screwing for their personal gain today? We have officially lost our independent journalists and I fear because of it that we have also failed at the experiment our founding fathers started all those years ago. The founding fathers seemed concerned enough back in the day to make sure they include a freedom for the press; it was key to ensuring fair, democratic information was distributed to the masses. I propose today that we call our representatives and demand that they put forth an amendment giving us the people freedom from the press. I suggest we call that the Fishdeck Act of 2009. Now go make that phone call.

This is just plain crazy and quite frankly anti-American. Time Warner Links Web Prices With Usage:
NEW YORK (AP) — Time Warner Cable will experiment with a new pricing structure for high-speed Internet access later this year, charging customers based on how much data they download, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
The company, the second-largest cable provider in the United States, will start a trial in Beaumont, Texas, in which it will sell new Internet customers tiered levels of service based on how much data they download per month, rather than the usual fixed-price packages with unlimited downloads.
It is always surprising when a company takes a page from the government playbook of waiting until someone is dependent on a service and then tax the crap out of it. Oh wait, this isn’t a tax, it is consumer choice! What a sack of crap!! Hey Time Warner here’s an idea for you, why don’t you try innovating your product first and then charge appropriately for the service. Crazy? I know. Really though, shouldn’t this have been the first step followed by the current unlimited bandwidth we now currently enjoy? I thankfully don’t live in an area serviced by Time Warner but I fear that if this plan succeeds all providers will adopt the same model, so if you do currently have TW, please call and air your frustration.

What kind of sick world do we live in these days? Now we are arresting 13 year old girls for “inappropriately” touching boys of the same age? 13-year-old girl arrested for alleged school bus assaults:
PALMER –—A 13-year-old Sutton girl is being held in the Mat-Su Youth Facility after two boys said she sexually assaulted them on a school bus.
The boys, also 13, of Sutton, said the girl touched them over their clothing, Palmer Police Det. Kelly Turney said. Police went to Palmer Junior Middle School Jan. 9 to investigate and ended up arresting the girl.
Wrong? Yes. But unless the girl was trying to do a little late term circumcision, where’s the foul here? Don’t want to speak for all men out there but I think most men would have killed for this kind of attention at 13.

Just a follow up to the previous post. Dems Says Pentagon Using Scare Tactics:
WASHINGTON (AP) – In their latest tussle with the White House on the Iraq war, two leading House Democrats said Tuesday the Pentagon was using scare tactics to try to goad Congress into passing another war spending bill.
And Reps. David Obey and John Murtha said they won’t budge. Obey, D- Wis., chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Murtha, D- Pa., head of the panel’s Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said they won’t support more money for the war this year unless President Bush accepts a timetable for troop withdrawals.
Last week, the House passed a $50 billion bill that would keep operations afloat for several more months, but sets a goal of bringing most troops home by December 2008. After Bush threatened to veto the measure, Senate Republicans blocked it.
Ok, I won’t deny that I am very biased towards our military. In fact I personally believe it is one of the few powers that the Federal government was actually given under the constitution. With that disclosure out of the way, when will the average American realize that this current Congress is either very close to or already has betrayed American security past the point of repair? Seriously, if we don’t have the balls to stick out a fight we are winning, how will we have the balls to fight a war that could go either way?
Look around the world right now, our enemies are rallying around a weak America. Liberals would have you believe that if it weren’t for George Bush and his “failed policies”, that the world would love America unconditionally. These are the same people who believed the cold war would go away if President Reagan weren’t such a stubborn dick. They were wrong then and they are wrong now. Stop trying to cut America’s balls off to please the other pussy countries of the world. America must show its resolve to the rest of the world or we’ll be fighting a nuclear China and Russia instead of a bunch of misguided towel heads holding an express ticket to hell.

I have absolutely had it with the idiots in public office, specifically John “Surrender” Murtha. This cat is one of the craziest, most blatantly anti-American (read anti-Bush) Congressman this country has ever seen. Thanks to Murtha’s stubbornness and pure hate for the current administration, he and his liberal homies could very easily snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. From the Washington Times, War progress not affecting fund standoff:
House Democrats’ point man in the war-funding showdown with the White House today dismissed U.S. military gains in Iraq and vowed to tighten the purse strings until President Bush accepts a pullout plan.
“Look at all the people that have been displaced, all the [lost] oil production, unemployment, all those type of things,” said Rep. John P. Murtha, chairman of Appropriations defense subcommittee. “We can’t win militarily.”
Hmm, so if we can’t win militarily what are we suppose to do John, pass a comprehensive health care plan and the world will just love us to death? If you read that second paragraph in the quote above, doesn’t it almost seem like he is talking about America? Displaced people who have had to move from the cities they grew up in because the city has been over run by illegal immigrants and the lack of American drilling at home to appease the freaky environmentalists. Shouldn’t we be happy Iraq has lost oil production? Won’t that help save the frickin’ planet? I am disgusted that millions of Americans have given their lives for this country and we show our gratitude by electing ass clowns like John Murtha. Give yourself a pat on the back Pennsylvania, you must be proud!

I have long argued (mostly with my wife) that the women’s movement is primarily responsible for the decline in America. Women’s rights are great, I wouldn’t change that, but with most women now in the workplace the American quality of life has eroded. Huh? Sounds a little sexiest doesn’t it? It is but let me attempt to illustrate what I am referring to here. What have we as a society gained by having working mom’s in every business?
As a nation we have seen the quality of our schools decrease as they have had to take on more of a role in raising the students. Our children today are not getting the attention from their family they need because the parents are too involved with work. Divorce rates have soared without the stability of the traditional family roles. We have seen household incomes increase two fold which at first was great but now has driven up costs across the board almost making it mandatory to have two wage earners in the family. Obesity in America has skyrocket because we have become dependent on fast food to make up for the lack of cooking from the woman in the house. Our politician’s tell us we need immigrant labor to make up for a shortage in the workplace. A shortage that wouldn’t exist if women weren’t given the right to murder their own children.
Anyway, now that I have exposed myself as a chauvinistic pig, here is an interesting and somewhat related article on the budget crisis in middle income families: From MSNBC.com Life is harder now, some experts say:
Shopping malls are packed every weekend. Restaurants can’t open fast enough. Everyone seems to be wearing designer shoes, jackets and jeans and sipping $4 lattes. Credit card commercials constantly advocate splurging and, it seems, U.S. consumers are all too ready to comply.
So what’s the problem? Why do so many middle class Americans with so much stuff say they feel so squeezed? If they are dogged by debt, isn?t it their own fault?
Perhaps, some experts say, things are not as they appear.

So Barack Obama is now using faith to justify environmental hysteria? Obama Links Faith to Environmentalism:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama said Sunday that his religious beliefs influence his plans for how to protect the environment.
Speaking before religious leaders and others at what he called an “interfaith forum on climate change,” the Illinois senator said God has entrusted humans with the responsibility of caring for the earth, and “we are not acting as good stewards of God’s earth when our bottom line puts the size of our profits before the future of our planet.”
“It is our responsibility to ensure that this planet remains clean and safe and livable for our children and for all of God’s children,” he told about 200 people gathered at the downtown public library. “But in recent years, science has made it undeniably clear that our generation is not living up to this responsibility. Global warming is not a someday problem, it is now.”
Personally, my faith is what leads me to believe global warming is an absolute joke. I’m not saying we can’t make the Earth heat up a tiny bit, I just don’t believe man is capable of destroying it. It is clear from scripture that there are people on Earth when Christ returns. If global warming can destroy the Earth how would this be possible? Perhaps Barack should read the Bible before he claims to know God’s desire for us on the planet He created. This is simply a bum politician trying to woo fence sitters by using flowery language to invoke a greater purpose in people. Or as I like to call it, a deceptive plan to destroy capitalism and create a socialist state.
